Research Technologist 2

Job Summary:

The Research Technologist 2 will perform complexity experimental research procedures, analyze the data, and present the results. Responsible for managing an electrophysiology and biochemistry laboratory.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Design and perform complex experimental procedures and make necessary procedural changes involving the role of kainate receptors in spinal oligodendrocyte excitotoxicity and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis;
  • Perform data analyses and prepare reports representing the results of experimental procedures performed;
  • Direct and train postdoctoral fellows and students in research techniques and procedures and keeping the laboratory running efficiently;
  • Perform administrative tasks including maintaining a laboratory, stocking it with supplies and reagents; Responsibilities include training others in cell culture techniques and familiarity with animal handling and immunohistochemical techniques;
  • Interfacing with other departments in the university;
  • General laboratory support, molecular techniques, laboratory budgeting and purchases, and coordinating regulatory and other lab communications;
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in basic science and three or more years of related research experience or Master's degree and one or more years of related experience;
  • Expertise in cell culture techniques and familiarity with animal handling and immunohistochemical techniques;
  • Attention to Details;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in basic science and three or more years of related research experience or Master's degree and one or more years of related experience;
  • 3-5 years demonstrated lab experience and biological science background;
  • Excellent organization skills;
  • Good computer skills.
